Present knowledge and relevant
Bibliography relating to the problem: Only few references are available on this topic . We have performed several experiments in die last, few consecutive years. Literatures available on this aspect are presented here for a brief review.

Pasiimeiiter et,al. (1974) observed improved genninability and decrease in viability loss by using high voltage electricity.

Koeacaliskan et.a! (1990) studied the effect of electric current on dormancy in potato tubers. Continuous! and repetitive currents were applied on tubers. In case of repetitive current the dormancy was seen to be broken at potential differences of 50 and 100 volts. They also found that sprouted potato tubers showed changed electrophoretic protein patterns and altered activities of amylase and polyphenol oxidase compared to unsprouted potato tuber.

«--Alamgir et.a! (1901) studied the effect of electric current treatment of seeds on growth of seedlings of bottle gourd, Lagenaria skereaia (Mo!) Stadl, They found that presowing electric current treatment [DC 220V] of seeds affected vegetative growth and leaf pigment content in the seedling. Moon and Chung (2000) studied the effect of different intensities and axposure time of electric and magnetic fields to determine the optimum condition for germination. They recorded 1.1 to 2.S times acceleration of germination rate compared to control.
