The Department of Bengali has a very long and rich zheritage with commendable contribution in cultural and educational scenario in West Bengal. This Department started its glorious journey independently in 1946. During this long period of six decades the Department rendered its utmost efforts to hold aloft the banner of the glorious heritage of the prestigious academic Institution.

Hundreds of alumni of this Department became most eminent having illustrious career in the fields of education, literature and culture in the country . A few of them are : Buddhadeb Bhattacharya (chief Minister of West Bengal), Dr.Sudhakar chottopadhya(eminent Educationist), Dr. Bhudeb Choudhury( Eminent Educationist) , Dr. Haraprasad Mitra (Eminent Educationist), Dr. Sisir kr. Das( Eminent Educationist), Sakti Chottopadhya (Eminent Poet), Dr. Ramaswar shaw ( Eminent Linguist), Shanka Ghosh ( Eminent Educationist and Poet), etc.

At present the Department is proud to have some competent and dedicated teachers in its faculty. They offer their best for over all enrichment of academic and cultural ambiance of the Department.

The students of the department continue to excel themselves both in academic and co-curricular activities . They give exemplary assistance to the Department on all occasions .Throughout the year many cultural programmes are organised in the Department .
